Lauryn Hill is seen as an icon when it comes to music, but especially when it comes to her feel good Neo-Soul vibes. Lauryn dropped her first single in five years titled, “Guarding the Gates,” the single beings with an acoustic guitar leading into Lauryn’s therapeutic melodies. Lauryn’s, “Guarding the Gates” is featured on the new film “Queen & Slim” which premiers November 27, 2019.
Hill’s last solo record “Black Rage,” released in 2014 spoke out on the injustice of Michael Brown. In “Guarding the Gates” Lauryn sings, “All that you could be is a spectacle, following after every single miracle, Watch them marvel at, all the joy you have … But they’re too important to have all the joy you have, what a tragedy, you can laugh at me”. It’s safe to say that Miss Hill has not lost her touch and is still able to cook up magic in the studio.
Hopefully, this won’t be the last we hear from Lauryn Hill, is that her talents are unmatched!
