Our forever president is still being great
Fresh off All-Star weekend, Barack Obama may not be in office anymore but he’s making headlines this President’s Day. He’s teaming up with the NBA and FIBA to launch a new professional basketball league in Africa! The NBA announced Saturday that it plans for the 12 team league to be launched in January 2020. It will bring existing teams into one pan-continental competition in a move that would raise the profile of the game in Africa and bring more funding opportunities. Obama’s role is not specified yet, but he will have an active role considering that he had a court installed in the White House after taking office. He even tweeted: “I’ve always loved basketball because it’s about building a team that’s equal to more than the sum of its parts. Glad to see this expansion into Africa because for a rising continent, this can be about a lot more than what happens on the court.” We just hope it’s as black friendly as it should be being that Obama is involved.
