Yeoman First Class LaToya Jones was the first to announce on a Facebook Live event on Tuesday that women would be allowed to wear their hair in locs and a ponytail. The Navy felt this change is a great way for women to avoid distractions.
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson told the AP that the Navy aim to involve everyone and have a fair environment. Lt. Cmdr. Jess Cameron told the AP,“I think it’s a step forward”.“They’re getting more female feedback in the service and updating what I think are somewhat antiquated guidelines that maybe no longer serve their purpose in today’s society, today’s military.”.
