MEEK WASN’T FEELING THE JUDGE’S HOSTILITY TOWARDS HIM

Meek Mill’s legal team has released the following statement to Billboard after filing for an appeal of their client’s case with the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court. “Judge Brinkley ‘acted as a prosecutor, not a judge and purposely had a hostile cross-examination of Bradley Bridge — a well-respected veteran of the Philadelphia Defender Association who was a witness on Meek’s case during last Monday’s hearing. Meek’s legal team assert that Brinkley lacks impartiality, especially since she laughed at Bridge’s testimony and criticized how the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office was handling Meek’s matter.”

Earlier this week, Judge Genece Brinkley denied Meek Mill’request for a new trial, despite the district attorney’s belief that the rapper deserves a fresh start. Mill’s team of legal representatives has proceeded with the next step by filing a new appeal pleading with the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court to have Judge Brinkley removed from their client’s case.

XXL obtained the new court documents filed on Meek’s behalf that claim Brinkley has “acted like a prosecutor, not a judge.” “[Judge Brinkley has had] multiple chances to step aside on this matter in the interests of justice, but she repeatedly has refused to do the right thing,” according to Meek Mill’s team.

Following Brinkley’s denial of a new trial, Meek’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, released the following statement to Billboardin which his team believes Judge Brinkley has had her mind made up regarding separating herself from the case after their previous hearing on June 18. “We are not at all surprised by Judge Brinkley‘s decision today. Despite the agreement of the District Attorney’s office on the need for a new trial, and the granting of new trials to other identically situated defendants, Judge Brinkley made clear during the hearing on June 18 that she had already decided the matter. We continue to believe that this miscarriage of justice will be corrected upon further review and that the public’s confidence in the impartiality of the judicial system in Pennsylvania will be restored.”

The Philly-bred rapper publicly stated that he was ashamed of what had transpired during the June 18 hearing. “I feel like what went on in the courtroom today is disgraceful,” Meek relayed. The Dreamchasers artist’s original arresting officer has been at the center of a massive law enforcement corruption scandal in Philadelphia.

Billboard has reached out to Meek Mill’s legal reps for comment.
