TI IS READY TO TAKE A STAND
T.I. is joining in protest with citizens who’ve become outraged over a viral video that shows an encounter between police and two men who many believe were “arrested while Black” in a Philadelphia Starbucks earlier this week.
The Grand Hustle rap mogul expressed his dissent against the coffeehouse chain in a series of Instagram posts that called upon fans to boycott and responded to the company’s apology by declaring that “Reciprocity’s our policy!!!!”
“Operation #F**kStarbucks in FULL EFFECT!!!!” Tip wrote in the caption of a text message he shared to reveal the 9th District Precinct address and the cafe’s 18th and Spruce Street location, where demonstrations were being held. “I ain’t spending no more of my bread wit em,” he penned under an Instagram post. “Urge y’all not to either,” he’d then go on and write in the post that followed.
In addition to anger towards Starbucks and the Philly PD over the incident, many have expressed further disgust that the city’s police commissioner has defended that he (like the men who were detained) too has been treated like a trespasser by one of the company’s franchises, and is backing the officers involved as merely doing their job.
Starbucks has since released a statement apologizing for the way the employees approached the situation and noted that it will review its policies going forward.
