READ HOW THEY LET THIS SLIP THERE SYSTEMS!!
Many Groupon customers have began to boycott the website, due to the racial slur that was posted to describe a boot.
These boots were sold by various vendors on Groupon. They were marketed for a 46% discount. However, Groupon explains to the public that companies such as Kojwa and Margines, ones who sold the shoes, are separate companies that are Chinese based. They also expressed that this is usual issue in the e-commerce space. “We’re determining why the deal slipped past the controls we have in place and will make the necessary improvements” says a Groupon salesperson.
According to Comopltian.com, Bill Roberts, the vice president of Global Communications for the company express great remorse. He says ” We are appalled that this language was displayed on our site. This product description was provided by a third-party seller via our self-service platform. Regardless, this is completely unacceptable and violates our policies– to say nothing of our values. When make aware of the issue, we immediately removed the deal–as well as the third-party seller–from our marketplace. Language like this has no place on Groupon, and we’re further strengthening our self-service controls to ensure it doesn’t happen again” says Roberts.
Although the company has apologized, many customers took to Twitter to express their discomforts toward the situation. “I will no longer purchase anything from Groupon due to boots you advertise for sale…poor taste amd highly offensive, but I’m glad you felt comfortable selling them…now I know how you really feel.” one Twitter user says.
