ADELE AT GRAMMY’S: “I can’t possibly accept this award … my life is Beyoncé.”
Last night Adele’s 25 was announced as the winner of Album of the Year at the 2017 Grammys, after just leaving the stage accepting Record of the Year for “Hello.” Even she was stunned. Both Adele and Beyoncé were nominated for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year (Adele won all three categories).
“Hi guys,” she said weakly to the crowd, and after crying through some acknowledgements, she said “winning this kind of feels like coming full circle,” but then she quickly spoke out to share awareness of what many of the people in the audience might be feeling, she than continued to touch on a few largely controversial topics.
“I can’t possibly accept this award,” Adele said, during her acceptance speech. “I’m very humbled and very grateful and gracious, but my life is Beyoncé … The Lemonade album was just so monumental, Beyoncé. It was so monumental and well thought-out and beautiful and soul-baring… we appreciate that. All of us artists here adore you. You are our light.”
She later added backstage: “I thought it was her year. What the fuck does she have to do to win Album of the Year?”
