For three quarters, the Atlanta Falcons were sooo close to their first Super Bowl title in franchise history.
Then the fourth quarter happened, And then there was overtime.
A 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl, where no team has ever trailed by more than 10 points and won. In a long history of NFL postseasons, nobody had ever come back from 16 in the fourth quarter.
The Falcons was so close to its first championship, led 28-3 late in the third quarter. It was 28-9 with less than 10 minutes remaining, before Stephen Gostkowski’s 33-yard field goal brought New England within 16, or two touchdowns and a two-point conversion.
“This is hard one for us, There’s not place to put that one.” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said Sunday night.
